1779-02-02nd At a Meeting of the Selectmen February 2 1779. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Thomas Stephens five pounds seventeen shillings & six pence he being over taxed that sum in 1777. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Cornelius Woodberry thirty-four pounds one shilling and two pence being in two orders one of £ 25-4-0 the other of £ 8-17-2 it being in full for all damages he sustained by having the turf dug off of his land to build the fort with and for all other damages he received by reason of the Town fortifying on his or nearby his land of all kinds whatsoever. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Mary Cox four pounds being abatement of a poll tax, not of age in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Lovett 3d 73/ for extra charge as Surveyor on the Highways 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Henry Herrick Jr. thirty-six pounds for keeping of the Grammar th School in this Town one month expiring on the 24 of January last. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Martha Woodberry £ 19-10-0 in full for keeping of Susanna Ellinwood’s bastered child till the seventh day of January last. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Priscilla Trask 35/ for the abatement of her taxes for 1778, being unable to pay the same. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Constable Zachariah Gage twenty-five pounds three shillings and six pense 48/of said sum for warning two town meetings by notification and for warning the Ferry Ward 4 times verbally and the remainder is for abatements in his list as followeth. viz. Nathaniel Abbott’s taxes 3-13-9, in captivity William Dixey’s ditto 1-11-5, in captivity William Ellinwood’s ditto 5-9-8, in captivity John Grove’s ditto 2-0- 3, in captivity nd Henry Herrick 2 ditto 2-0-1, long apps and, if allies John Harmon Jr. ditto 1-11- 3, in captivity Jonathan Herrick ditto 2-8-1, missing abroad Benjamin Crofts ditto 1-4-2, no such person Noah Downs ditto 1-11-5, dead, left nothing. William Groves ditto 1-5-5, long absent
