1779-01-05At a meeting of the Selectmen Jan. 5, 1779. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Jesse Dodge four pound being over taxed that sum through mistake in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Butman seven pounds twelve shillings together with 14/8 to due to the town from him as Surveyor is in full for keeping of John Martin his third-quarter as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay the wid. Lucy Woodman five pounds seventeen shillings for the abatement of her late husband’s tax in 1778, he dying in captivity. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joshua Balch thirteen pounds seven shillings it being for extra charge of labor on the Highways as Surveyor. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Taylor 14/6 for extra charge as Surveyor of the Highways. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Amma Knowlton four pounds ten shillings abatement of part of his taxes 1778, extreme poor. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Hannah Giles eight pounds eighteen shillings in full for nursing of Elizabeth Howard and children when sick and died in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Leech 54/ for extra charge as Surveyor on the Highways. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Robert Baker fourteen pounds twelve shillings and eight pence 53/ of said some for warning verbally Royal Side [Ryal Side] Ward 6 times and Bass River Ward four times and the remainder for sundry abatements in his list as followeth. viz. for Benjamin Chapman’s tax 4-17-10, in captivity. for Amos Creesy tax 1-12-2, died in captivity. for John Leech’s tax 5-9-8, in captivity.
