1779-08-03d At a meeting of the Selectmen Aug. 3 1779. Ordered the Treasure to pay Benjamin Woodman nine pound eight shillings, abatement of his rates for 1778, having met with much misfortune by sea. Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Harmon 14/2 for his highway tax, he working out the same. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Constable Edward Trask six pound fifteen shillings for abatements in his list 1778 viz. for widow Hannah Creesy rate 60/ extreme poor for Benjamin Chipman ditto 75/ in captivity. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Asa Brown £ 12 on account of his loss of his house etc. by fire it being part of his rates for the year 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Elizabeth Ellinwood six pound for abatement of her son’s poll in 1778, he being in captivity, long absent. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Henry Herrick Jr. forty-seven pound ten shillings in full for keeping of the Grammar School 19 days. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Leech four pound ten shillings abatement of his Town rate in 1778, he being in captivity.
