1778-05-05At a meeting of the Selectmen May 5th 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Daniel Glover 39/2 abatement of a poll tax, not of age in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Abigail Smith 43/6 four and four pence of said sum for her highway tax it being worked out 39/2 for abatement of her son’s poll, in captivity. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Balch Lovett 80/ together with 20/ that the clothing was deficient in full for keeping of Mary Woodberry as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Hannah Foster 3d twenty-eight shillings & 3 pence 20/ of it for milk and attendance on Dane and Bradshaw when sick small pox 8/3 for ditto William Lovett. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Jonathan Perkins £ 6-13-4 for keeping of the district school near Benjamin Larcom’s winter past. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Henry Herrick Jr. £ 15 pounds for keeping school the month of the April 1778. Agreed to keep the Grammar school one month for 15 pounds. At the above said Meeting Daniel Dane, administrator to the estate of Samuel Dane, deceased, paid the Selectmen £ 7-13-11 in full of the charge that the Town had been at for nursing and other necessaries found the said Samuel Dane when he was sick and died with small pox in 1777. Also paid the said Daniel Dane of the abovesaid money for to discharge of an account that Samuel Dane had against the Town £ 2-19-10 for the following particulars 13/2 for sundry things by him made for accouterments for cannon. 8/8 for a coffin for the body of Mary Butman. 9/4 for a coffin for the body of Wm. Hales. 10/for a Coffin for the body of Elizabeth Rogers. 10/4 for a Coffin for the body of Suzanna Patch. 8/for a Coffin for the body of Richard Harris. Also paid Capt. William Langdell three pounds twelve shillings of the above said money for clothing for John Martin and Susanna Ellinwood’s child Molley so that there remain in the Selectmen’s hands of the above said money £ 1-2-0 not paid out. th At a meeting of the Selectmen May 5 1778. Ordered that a Town meeting should be warned and held on the 7th instant at 5 o’clock afternoon at the stated place for holding Town meeting in said Town to see what measures the Town will come into for procuring the money for the hiring of the militia that are sent for from this Town to go into the public service and appoint some person or persons to hire said militia from time to time and act and do any thing relative to those affairs as they in their wisdom shall think best. And there was a warrant issued out to Constable Edward Trask to warn the Ferry & Royal Side [Ryal Side] Districts One warrant to also [illegible] to warn Bass River District. One ditto to William Taylor to warn the Bald Hill District. One ditto to Peter Obear Jr. to warn the Farms District accordingly.
