1778-04-07I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen of the
Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Joseph Larcom, a poor person under their care, the full term
of one year commencing on the 7th day of April instant and to find and provide for and unto the said
Joseph, good and sufficient meat, drink, washing and lodging both in sickness and in health [illegible]
said term, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the expiration of said term to carry and remove him
to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I first received him for the sum
of twenty-four pounds to be paid the one half at the expiration of each six months.

extraordinary nursing excepted, and at the expiration of said term to remove her to such place as the
Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I first received her for the sum of seventeen pounds
one shilling and four pence to be paid one half of it at the expiration of the first six months and the
other half at the year’s end.

At a Meeting of the Selectmen April 7 1778.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay widow Margary Larcom fourteen pounds, eight pounds for
keeping of Joseph Larcom the year past as per agreement and six pounds for extraordinary charge
for his maintenance by reason of the dearness of the necessaries of life year past.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay Nathaniel Roberts fifteen pounds twelve shillings in full for
keeping of Mary May the year past to this date.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mercy Standley thirteen pounds eleven shillings £ 8-10-8 of said
sum for keeping of Hannah Clark the year past as per agreement and £ 5-0-4 on account
extraordinary charge of keeping for the year past on account of the dearness of the necessaries of life.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay Jonathan Standley 39/2 abatement of his poll tax 1777, in a poor
state of health.
Ordered the Treasurer to [pay] Mr. Henry Herrick Jr. twelve pounds ten shillings in full for

keeping of the Grammar school till the 31 of March 1778. Agreed with him to keep said school one
month for fifteen pounds.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay Nathaniel Greenwood 42/ he being over taxed that sum in 1778.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Edwards 40/on account of his military tax key paying
money for the militia in Wenham in 1776.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay David Raymond 12/ for cleaning of Daniel Woodberry’s house
of the small pox 1777.
