1778-02-03d At a Meeting of the Selectmen Feb. 3 1778. Ordered the Treasury to pay the several persons, soldiers in the Continental Army, hereafter named twenty shillings each of them; it being for the necessary support of their families, being extreme poor viz. £ - s - d To Jonathan Kant1 - 0 -1 To Thomas Obear1 - 0 - 1 To Robert Twist1 - 0 - 1 To William Woodberry 3d1 - 0 - 1 Ordered the Treasurer to pay Jonathan Presson 39/2 abatement of his poll tax by reason of his misfortune taken and in the hands of the enemy. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Benjamin Smith 60/ - 37/3 of said sum for interest money due to him on 2 notes 22/9 of said sum he being over taxed that sum by mistake in 1777. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joshua Ellinwood 63/ in full for one year’s house rent for John Todd’s family which terminated on the 5th day of December last. Also agreed to give him 6 dollars for the present half year. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Richard Obear six pounds for ten days work on the barracks at the fort. Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Edwards 23/6 over taxed that sum by mistake in 1777. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Mary Jones 24/ over taxed that sum in 1777. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Thissell 39/2 abatement of his poll tax he being in a poor state of health. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Corning 39/2 abatement of his poll tax by reason of old age. Ordered the Treasurer to paying Nathan Wyman 6/ over taxed by mistake that sum in 1777. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Joseph Rae four pounds three shillings and five pence in full for money paid the militia in his company, called the Canada men, and was a parish tax made and collected in part for the same.
