1778-01-06th At a meeting of the Selectmen Jan. 6 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Henry Herrick Jr. eight pounds in full for keeping of school till 25th of December last. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Dea. Robert Roundy eight pounds in full for keeping of his sister Deborah till the 7th of October last. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Jonathan Patch eight pounds in full for cleaning, keeping and maintenance of Anna Hales, a poor girl, till she is eighteen years of age. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Standley Jr. seven pounds ten shillings and eight pence £ 7-8-0 of said some for cleaning, keeping and maintenance of Elizabeth May, a poor girl, till she is eighteen years of age. And 2/8 for extraordinary charge as Surveyor of the Highways it being due to him as this day settled and returned all those in his list whose taxes are not crossed as not by him collected. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Lieut. Peter Shaw seventeen pound five shillings in full for the Selectmen and Assessors expenses to this date. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Josiah Obear six pound thirteen shillings and four pence for keeping of District School near the mouth of the Mill Lane last winter. Ordered the Treasurer to Joel Smith two pound ten shillings 30/ of said sum for going and hauling of [illegible] baggage to winter hill in the year 1775. Twice they belonging to this Town 10/ for blowing [illegible] in the fort & 18/ for other carting for the Town. Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Carter & Mathias Claxton 40/ each of them (soldiers in the Continental Army) for the support of their families extreme poor.
