1777-01-07th At a meeting of the Selectmen Jan. 71777. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Nathaniel Woodberry 28/8 abatement of his taxes for 1775 by reason of the extraordinary sickness in his family. Ordered the treasurer to pay Joshua Ellinwood 24/ for one half year’s house rent of John Todd’s family which terminated on the 5th of December last. Also agreed to give him 9 dollars for the present year’s rent. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Francis Smith 4/2 for extraordinary charges as Surveyor of the Highways. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Dea. Robert Roundy five pounds thirteen shillings and four pence for keeping of Deborah Roundy his first half year as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Jonathan Hart 7/4 five & 4 pence for extraordinary charge as Surveyor of the Highways and 2/ for shovel broke of his when entrenched at West Beach. th Beverly January 7 1777 agreed with the Selectmen of Beverly to keep a Grammar School th in said Town the term of three months commencing on the 27 of November last for the sum of fifteen pounds to be paid at the expiration of said term.
