1777-05-27th At a meeting of the Selectmen May 27 1777, they ordered a Town Meeting to be verbally th warned and held on the 28 instant at the Grammar School House in the first parish in said town at three o’clock in the afternoon. That where as several persons have of late broke out with the small pox near Mr. William’s meeting house and one of them are so bad as it is thought imprudent to remove him and others that refuse to be moved by which means it is thought necessary that a Town Meeting should be called to see if the Town will give their consent that those houses between Mr. Benjamin Roundy’s and the ferry or part of them should be appropriated for the benefit of being actively in and pass such votes and make such regulations relative to the inhabitants having the small pox as they in the wisdom shall think most for the public good. And there was a warrant issued out to Josiah Obear Constable to warn the Ferry District, to Robert Baker to warn Royal Side [Ryal Side] District and to Constable Benjamin Woodberry to warn the Farms and Bald Field District accordingly.
