1777-04-07th At a meeting of the Selectmen April 7 1777. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Hanna Elliott eight shillings of Town money for one quarter house rent d for Benja. Pickett which term and is on the 3 of May next. th Beverly April 7 1777. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Mary May, a poor child under their care, the full term of one year commencing on this day and to find and provide for and unto the said Child good and sufficient meet, drink, washing and lodging and apparel both in sickness and in health, doctors and nurses in sickness excepted, during the whole of said term for the sum of six pounds eighteen shillings and eight pence to be paid one half at the expiration of the first six months and the rest at the year’s end as witness my hand Nathaniel [illegible] th at a meeting of the Selectmen April 7 1777. Ordered the Treasured pay wid. Mercy Standley 64/ for keeping Hanna Clark the latter half year as per agreement with Aaron Selby. Ordered the Treasured to pay Jonathan Patch five pounds two shillings in full for keeping of George Leech the year [illegible] as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Amos Cleaves £ 6-13-4 for keeping of a District School in Bald Hill Ward the winter past. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Marjorie Larcom four pounds £ 3-13-4 said sum for keeping of Joseph Larcom his last half year which expired on the sixth instant and to 6/8 for extraordinary charge and nursing etc. for him. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Hazadiah Smith 12/6 for 2 ½ days work making wheels for gun carriages for the Town. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Butman four pounds for keeping of John Martin his fourth quarter as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Sears two pounds eight shillings and seven pence for abatements in his list as followeth. viz. 1-4-8 Solomon Lufkin, rates, died in the Army. 0-11-11 Henry Giles taxes, died in the Army. 0-4-0 Joshua Balch’s highway taxes worked out. 0-8-04 warning two town meetings. 2-8-7
