1776-02-09th At a meeting of the Selectmen Feb. 9.1776. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Hannah Elliott eight shillings for one quarters’s house rent for Benjamin Pickett which terminated the 3d instant. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Benjamin Dodge of Wenham one pound six shillings in full of his account for keeping of Mary Butman for weeks and three days when sick at his house in May and June last. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Nathan Leech six pounds in full of his account viz. 12/6 for expense of himself and company to Salem and Marblehead after guns. 6/ for trucking of them to the boats at Salem. 30/4 for 13 gallons of rum for the people when they build the breastworks in the town, etc. 3/4 for seven pounds a sugar for ditto. 2/8 for 6 axle trees for gun carriages. 3/5 for 6 Quire of cartridge paper and [illegible] and thread to make the cartridges with. 20/ for four ladles for the cannon. 12/4 for 21 wt. of sheet lead for aprons to cannon. 12/8 for 29 ½ pound of a cordage for harnesses to haul cannon with. 16/9 for 12 days time spent in building of breastworks, mounting and procuring of cannon and other services as one of the Committee. Order the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wood five pound three shillings and eight pence in full of his account as one of the Committee of Correspondence of this Town viz. 8/ for cash paid for plank for the two field carriages. 3/ for hauling the same from Wenham. 2/8 for timber for four axle trees for said carriages. 2/ for a sheepskin for sponges for cannon. 4/ for cash paid for bread for people when worked at the Fort. 4/10 for 100 [illegible] board for watch house in the Fort. 4/ for 200 of bricks for chimney in said house. 2/6 for haul said brick and boards to said Fort and to hauling of timber from Mr. Smith’s to the ferry. 24/ cash paid Francis Smith in part of his account. 48/8 first 27 days time spent in building of breastworks, procuring and mounting of cannon, writing of petition to the General and to Newburyport, Wenham, Andover, Boxford and for keeping of account etc. and for paper and ink. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wyer eight shillings for making of cartridges and wads and sundries for the great guns mounted here in this Town. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Larcom three pounds of the Town’s money it being for keeping of his brother Joseph from the 7th of April last to the seventh of October last in full.
