1776-02-06th At a meeting of the Selectman Feb. 6.1776. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Joseph Lee four pound eight shillings and four pence 72/4 of said sum for forty-seven gallons of a rum had of him when built the breastworks at Woodberry’s Point and other places for the people that labored and 16/ for one cord wood to clean great guns with. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Gray two pound seventeen shillings for making of sundry utensils for the cannon procured for the defense of this Town and painting the same together with the carriages thereto belonging as per account. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Waters two pound eight shillings for 1...2...0 of bread for the people to eat when built the breastworks in this Town as per account. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. John Dyson one pound ten shillings & eight pence for 280 feet of lumber and three hundred of nails to build platforms for great guns in Fort. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Daniel Wallis seven pound ten shillings and three pence in full of his account for iron work done for the town in mounting of six great guns on carriages etc. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Sewall Tuck six shillings for six days work a making of utensils for the great guns. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Lovett Jr. twenty-two shillings for 550 feet of board to build breastworks with at Tuck’s Point. Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Lovett 2d one pound six shillings and eight pence for hauling of 10 loads of cannon plank timber etc. from the wharf to Woodberry’s Point. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Caleb Dodge fourteen shillings and eight pence for his horse to Haverhill and to go to Andover for power are and out in the woods etc. Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Pickett fourteen shillings for fourteen days work on mounting of cannon and on the watch houses in said Fort. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Andrew Elliott twenty-three shillings 10/ of said sum for 2 ½ days work of building of the watch houses in said Town 13/ for 13 days work on mounting of cannon and work on the watch house in the Fort. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Bowles one pound thirteen shillings in full for house rent for barracks for the Sea Coast men that were stationed in this Town three months and five days. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Josiah Obear four pounds and four pence in full for 1500 short layers 45/6 and for three cord of wood for the soldiers 30/4 and for three hand [illegible] 4/6. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Francis Smith one pound six shillings and eight pence which together with one pound four shillings paid him by Joseph Wood and is in full for 54 feet of 3 inch plank at 4d per for carriages of the cannon and 18/and for 7 ½ days work of himself at for s. per and 1 day of his son at 2/8 on making of carriages for the cannon 32/8. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr. five pounds ten shillings in full for 2526 feet of boards at 40/ per m. and for three-quarters of one hundred of bread for the people to eat when built the breastworks the boards and planks were for building platforms for the cannon and in the Fort and the breastworks at Tuck’s Point. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Balch Lovett forty-six shillings and five pence together with eleven bushels of corn he had of Joseph Wood of the Town is in full of his account for sundries as followeth viz. 8/ for hauling of boards and timber for the watch houses. 21/4 for hauling and storing 188 bushels of corn for Town. 10/8 for hauling 80 bushels of corn to Dodge’s Mill. 6/ for hauling 90 bushels of corn from his house to said Mill etc. 5/4 for hauling 80 bushels of corn from his house to School House near the Mill Lane. 28/5 for 142 wt. of beef for John Clark’s family. 1/6 for1/2 bushel of salt for the same. 12/3 for 92 quarts of milk found John Clark’s family. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Richard Obear thirty-three shillings together with 2 bushels of corn and 48 feet of boards is in full of his account for four days work in June last on building watch houses and for 6 ½ days work at the Fort laying platforms all at 4/ per day.
