1776-09-03d At a meeting of the Selectmen Sept. 3 1776. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. James Lovett 41/7 for one year’s interest on a note that the Town owed him for corn. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Azariah Woodberry forty-two shillings 18/ for men he got to guard agreeable to a vote of the Town etc. 18/ of said sum for house rent and damages done by the soldiers when they lived in it in full and six shillings for wood found for the guard etc. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Smith twenty-four shillings 16/of said sum for to pay the men that he hired to guard agreeable to a vote of the Town 5/ for 2 foot of wood found for the guard when there 3/ for wood and trouble with the guard several nights at his house. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wood two pounds six shillings and ten pence for sundry necessaries found by him for Thomas Carry when sick with the small pox as per his agreement on file. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Henry Herrick Jr. twelve pounds for keeping of the Grammar A three months which expired in August last. Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Lovett the fourth 11/ for1/2 cord of wood for Wm. Hale’s. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Freeborn Trask 42/ for seven gallons of rum bought of him for the soldiers when on fertaige at Rae’s Fort. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Simon Elliott 72/ for bringing three nine pounders and carriages from Charlestown and a number of shot for the same for the use of this Town. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. William Bartlett three pounds 12/11 of Town’s money, 23/6 of it for time and expenses to Boston after cannon and 34/7 for his journey and expenses to Framingham after cannon for the use of this Town etc. 14/10 for to candles found for the guard by Col. Glover more than was allowed him by the Contenant and paid said Glover by said Bartlett. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Joseph Rae fifty pounds ten shillings £50 for two hundred weight of powder and 10/ for hauling the same from Andover for the use of this Town.
