1775-05-19At a meeting of the Selectmen May 19th.1775 they ordered that a Town meeting be warned and held th on Monday the 29 day of May instant at one of the clock in the afternoon at the stated place of holding Town meetings in said Town for to act on the following particulars viz. 1ly. To elect and depute as many members as to them shall seem necessary and expedient to st represent them in a Provincial Congress to be held at the Meeting House in Watertown on the 31 day instant to be continued by adjournment as they shall see cause until the expiration of six months st from their being first convened on the 31 instant May and no longer and to consult, deliberate and resolve upon such further measures as under God shall be effectual to save this people from impending ruin etc. 2ly. To determine what sum of money they will grant to be raised upon the ratable polls and estates within said Town to defray the necessary growing charges arising within the same. 3ly. To choose and accept Constables to serve in the room of Capt. William Morgan and Capt. Ebenezer Ellinwood they refusing the service but will satisfy some person or persons for serving in their room it going for their turn if agreeable to the town. 4ly. To receive the report of the committee appointed to make inquiry into the Town privilege in a landing at Mingo’s Beach. 5ly. To act on the petition of James Obear and others praying for pay for the town way lately laid out by the Selectmen to Obear’s Cove so-called etc. 6ly. To act on the request of Capt. George Raymond and others relative to the town building a house for the reception of the poor of said Town etc. which was referred from the annual meeting in March to this meeting and there was a warrant issued out to Constable Nathaniel Creesy to warn the same by order of the Selectmen. Attest Joseph Wood, T. Clerk. Above said meeting of the Selectmen ordered the treasurer to pay Benjamin Ellinwood six shillings for keeping of Susannah Ellinwood and child two weeks as per agreement.
