1775-04-04We, the subscribers, Selectmen Constables of the Town of Beverly due on this fourth day of April 1775 as by law empowered and enjoined to nominate and appoint and choose Lieut. Isaac Chapman to be Sealer of Weights and Measures for the Town of Beverly from time to time till another be appointed and chosen in his room and stead. William Langdell Edmund Giles Nicholas ThorndikeConstables/Selectmen Jonathan Conant Joseph Ward th At a meeting of the Selectmen April 4 1775. The following agreement was made as followeth viz. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to enter with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Caleb Clerk, a poor person, under their care for the full term of one-year commencing on the seventh day of April instant and find and provide for the said Clerk good and sufficient apparel, meat, drink, washing and lodging in sickness and in health during the whole of said term/doctors and nurses excepted/and at the expiration of said term to remove him to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I could received him for and in consideration of receiving the sum of thirteen pounds seventeen shillings and four pence to be paid quarterly as. Witness my hand Benjan. Leach th At a meeting of the Selectmen April 4 1775 the following agreement was made viz. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Susannah Patch, a poor person, under their care the full term of one-year commencing on the seventh day of April instant and find and provide for the said Susannah Patch good and sufficient apparel, meat, drink, washing and lodging the whole of the said term both in sickness and in health, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the expiration of said term to remove her to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I received her for and in consideration of the sum of six pound eighteen shillings and eight pence to be paid quarterly. As witness my handMary Morse Attest, Joseph Wood At a meeting of the Selectmen April 4th.1775 the following agreement was made viz. I, the Subscriber, do hereby promise, covenant and agree to and with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Hannah Clark, a poor person under their care, the full term of one-year commencing from the seventh day of April instant and find and provide for the said Hannah good and sufficient apparel, meat, drink, washing and lodging both in sickness and in health the whole of said term, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the expiration of said term to remove her to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I received her for and in consideration of the sum of three pounds 9/4 money to be paid at the expiration of each six months as witness my hand. Nathaniel Clark I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Deborah Roundy, a poor person under their care, of the said Overseers the full term of one-year commencing from the seventh day of April instant and find and provide to and for the said Deborah good and sufficient apparel, meat, drink, washing and lodging both in sickness and in health during of the whole of said term, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the expiration of said term to remove her to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I now received her for and in consideration of receiving the sum of ten pounds to be paid quarterly. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Joseph Larcom, a poor person under their care, the full term of one-year commencing from the seventh day of April 1775 into find for said Larcom good and sufficient apparel, meat, drink, washing and lodging both in sickness and in health during the whole of said term, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the expiration of said term will remove him to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I first received him for and in consideration or proceeding of the sum ofBenjamin Larcom. th Beverly, April 4 1775. th At a meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly, April the 4 1775 the following agreement was made viz. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of said Town for the consideration hereafter named to keep and maintain John Martin, a poor person under their care, the full term of one year commencing from the seventh day of April instant and find and provide for said Martin good and sufficient meat, drink, washing and lodging and mending of clothes both in sickness and health during the whole of said term, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the expiration of said term to remove him to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint for the sum of thirteen pounds six shillings and eight pence to be paid quarterly witness my hand. William Butman th At a meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly April 4 1775 the following agreement was made viz. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly for the following consideration to keep and maintain Susannah Ellinwood and her child that now with her the full term of one year commencing on the seventh day of April instant and find and provide for the said Susannah and her child good and sufficient apparel, meat, drink, washing and lodging both in sickness and health during the whole of said term, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the end or expiration of said term to remove them to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I received them for the sum of two pounds eight shillings to be paid at the expiration of said term. Nevertheless it is always to be understood that if the said Selectmen shall think best within said term to send the said Susannah and child out of the Province they have liberty not withstanding the above said payment as above said in proportion according to the time she lives with me as witness my hand. Henry Herrick th At a meeting of the Selectmen that Beverly April 4 1775 Mr. Henry Herrick Jr. made following agreement. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen of said Town to keep a Grammar School within the same full term of six months commencing on the seventh instant for and in consideration of the sum of twenty-four pound to be paid quarterly as witness my hand. Henry Herrick Jr. At the above said meeting of the Selectmen, ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. William Herrick twelve pounds of the Town’s money for keeping of the Grammar School three months as per agreement. th At a meeting of the Selectmen April 4 1775. Ordered the Treasurer to pay the widow Mary Morse thirty-three shillings of the Town’s money for keeping of Susannah Patch her last quarter as per agreement. th At the meeting of the Selectmen April 4 1775 the following agreement was made viz. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agree to and with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain George Leach, a poor person under their care, the full term of one year commencing on the seventh day of April 1775 and find and provide for the said George good and sufficient apparel, meat, drink, washing and lodging both in sickness and in health during the whole of said term, doctors and nurses excepted, and at the expiration of said term to remove him to such place as the said Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I received him for and in consideration of the sum of three pounds twelve shillings to be paid at the year end. th Beverly April 4 1775.Thos.
