1775-07-04th At a meeting of the Selectmen July 4 1775. th They ordered that a Town meeting should be warned and held on Friday the 14 day of July instant at four o’clock after noon at the usual place for holding Town meetings in said Town. 1ly. To elect and depute one or more Freeholders residents in this Town to serve for and represent them in a Great and General Court or Assembly to be convened, held and kept for the service of the said Colony until the end of the day next proceeding the last Wednesday of May next th if necessary and no longer. At the meeting house in Watertown upon Wednesday the 19 day of July instant etc. 2ly. To act on the petition of a number of the Freeholders of the said Town to see if the Town will dismiss their present committees to wit the Committees of Correspondence and the Committees of Safety and Inspection which now stand chosen by said Town & likewise to see of said Town will choose the present Selectmen of said Town to be a Committee of Correspondence the and a Committee of Safety and Inspection in their stead as we humbly conceive a Committee of five men will answer that and to all intents and purposes as well as a larger number and will be attended with less charge to the Town. 3ly. To make such rules and regulations for their Grammar School as they shall in their wisdom think best and there was a warrant issued out to Constable William Hazeltine to warn the same accordingly Attest Joseph Wood, T. Clerk. th At a meeting of the Selectmen July 4 1775. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Butman three pounds six shillings and eight pence for keeping of John Martin his first quarter as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Samuel Woodberry one pound 4/7 for keeping of Benjamin Sprigs his latter half year and for some clothing found him as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Solomon Cole William Tuck thirteen shillings and four pence each for two blankets they found for themselves to go into the Colony service in Capt. Low’s Company. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. James Lovett £ 3..10..6 ½ twenty-four & ten pence of said some for 1...2...12 of bread and the remainder for boards and joists for building of watch houses and etc. Mr. John Creesy, Joshua Balch, Josiah Morgan and William Bowles were chosen to serve on the Petit Jury at the Court of the General Sessions of Peace and Inferior Court of Common Pleas to be holden at Salem on the second Tuesday of July instant in and for the County of Essex.
