1775-02-17th At a meeting of the Selectmen Feb. 7 1775. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Morse five shillings for abatement of his sons poll lost at sea. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Thissell 1 pound 8 shillings and before pence for the following particulars, viz. As lost money 4/2 for abatement of Joseph Leech’s highway tax he being taxed in two wards through mistake. 7/8 for abatement of Jacob Gray Morgan’s taxed at appearing that belongeth to Manchester. 6/3 for David Corning’s taxes to key absconded out of the Province. 3/ in part of Williams Briggs tax he being extreme poor. 6/3 for Simon Dooley’s tax to Town and Province he paying the said taxes at Wenham and produced a receipt for the same. 1/ for warning his ward for Town meeting once. Ordered the Treasurer to pay constable Josiah Stone one pound three shillings per lost money in his list, viz.. 11/1 for Benjamin Cook’s taxes he being lost at sea. 7/3 for Joseph Pedrick taxes absconded. 2/4 for Jonathan Bailey’s taxes under low circumstances. 1/4 for John Clark’s tax under poor circumstances. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Samuel Goodridge twenty-eight shillings and four pence for the following account, viz.. to 2 days at Ipswich horse and expense at the County Congress£ 0:15:0 to one half day setting out the highway at the ferry.3:0 to expense at Salem as Committee of Correspondence1:4 to coffin for Abigail Ellinwood’s body9:0 £ 1:8:4 Captain Benjamin Lovett Jr. presented the following account and had an order on the Treasurer for the same. To 2 day’s horse and expense at Ipswich at County Congress£15:0 To cash paid Mr. Blaney for copy about ferry lending10:4 To cash paid an attorney about said Landing12:0 To cash paid constable at Marblehead about ditto3:0 To 5 days spent at Salem, Marblehead and otherward about looking up Town Landing, and laying out the same.1:1:0 3:1:0 Ordered the Treasurer to pay Ebenezer Ellinwood two pound six shillings and eleven pence for expense of the Courts Committee when laid out the way at the ferry. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Pickett six shillings and eight pence for shaving of John Martin one year which terminated on Feb. first instant. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wood two pound two shillings and four pence 12/ of said sum for cash paid an attorney at July court about the way at the ferry. 12/ for going to Ipswich twice to court about said way. 6/4 for 2 day’s time at July court at Salem and after attorney. 2/8 for1 day at the ferry when laid out a way there. 2/ paid Mr. Blaney for recording of the report of said Committee that laid out the way near the ferry. 7/4 for going to Newburyport to have the said report accepted at the Court of Sessions. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Caleb Dodge two pound three shillings and two pence together with four shillings which he was to give for the Smoah gate at the ferry is in full for his account this day exhibited viz.. 10/ of said sum for 2 ½ days making highway tax. 10/ for 2 ½ days making of Town and Province taxes. 4/ for time spent in taking care of the poor to this day. 7/ for time spent in laying out a way from Josiah Trow’s to the road near William Trask’s house and laying out a way from Jonathan Woodberry’s corner to Obear Cove so-called and for time spent in exchanging the way to the Landing at Frost Fish Brook with Mr. Creesy’s 4 are for one day attending Court at Salem in July last. 2/8 for time with the Courts Committee when laid out the way near the ferry 7/4 for attending Court at Newburyport when the Court received the Report of their Committee about said way 2/2 ½ for repairs of cash containing Town Stock of ammunition. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Nicholas Carroll five shillings for abatement of his son’s poll he being lost at sea. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Henry Herrick two pound and eight pence for extraordinary charge and labor on the Highways in his ward the year past. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Hannah Giles three pound eighteen shillings and 2 pence which together with 22/ worth of clothing of Abigail Ellinwood is in full for keeping of Abigail th Ellinwood since the 7 of January last in full for all extraordinary charge in nursing and necessary, found her since to seventh of October last while sick at her house and for sundries found for her when died and buried. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Robert Dodge three shillings for mending of George Leech’s shoes when he lived at Mr. William Trask’s. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Andrew Cleaves one pound eight shillings for extraordinary charge and labor on the highway as surveyor.
