1775-01-03rd At a meeting of the Selectmen Jan. 3 1775. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Ens. James Woodberry one pound ten shillings and one penny for extraordinary charge and labor done on the highways as Surveyor more than he had collected. Ordered the Town Clerk to issue out the following warrant, viz. Essex, ss. To Joseph Woodberry one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting. In his Majesty’s Name you are hereby required forthwith to notify and warn the Freeholders and other Inhabitants of said town that are qualified according to royal charter to vote in the choice of th representatives as also by law in town affairs to assemble and meet together on Monday the 16 day of January instant at one o’clock afternoon at the stated place for holding town meetings in said town. 1ly. To elect and depute as many members as to them shall seem necessary and expedient to represent them in a Provincial Congress to be held at Cambridge on the first day of February next ensuing or sooner if thought necessary and to be continued by adjournment as they shall see cause until the Tuesday next preceding the last Wednesday of May next and no longer to consult, deliberate and resolve upon such further measures as under God shall be effectual to save the people from the impending ruin and to secure those inestimable liberties derived to us from our ancestors and which it is our duty to preserve for the posterity as also to give him or them such instructions as may then be thought proper and is agreeable to the late Resolves of the Provincial Congress. 2ndly. To see what measures the town will come into for carrying into execution a late resolve of the Provincial Congress passed on the 10th of December last relative to the Towns paying their Minutemen a reasonable consideration for their services and pass any votes relative to said resolve as may then be thought most for the public good. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Benjamin Smith 23/6 for extraordinary charge and labor done on the highways as surveyor. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Henry Herrick Jr. twelve pound for keeping the Grammar school in his first quarter as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr. twenty-four shillings and six pence 19/6 of said sum for extraordinary charge and labor done upon the highway as surveyor of the highways and five shillings for a copy of Ralph Ellinwood’s will which he procured for the town at the Probate office. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Ebenezer Francis 12/ for extraordinary charge on the highways as surveyor. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. William Dodge 6/8 for time spent as one of the Committee of Inspection of the Small Pox at sundry times. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Butman three pound eighteen shillings for keeping of John Martin his third quarter as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mary Morse 34/ for keeping of Susannah Patch her third quarter as per agreement Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Elizabeth Chapman one pound Nine shillings 21/9 for sundry clothing for Medlish when she went to Canada etc. 7/3 for sundry clothing for John Martin and Abigail Ellinwood. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Daniel Molloon 7/11 for meal delivered to Anna the French woman in the year 1768 by order of the Selectmen. Ordered the Treasurer to pay the wid. Hannah Giles three pounds one shilling and eight pence for keeping of Abigail Ellinwood her third quarter as per agreement. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wood four pound 19/7 for the following acct.
