At a meeting of the Selectmen October 11 1775.

Ordered a Town Meeting to be warned and held on Thursday the 12. instant at 3 o’clock
afternoon at the usual place for holding of Town meetings in said Town.
1ly. To take under consideration a letter from the Committee of Safety of the Town of Salem
recommending as their opinion that a couple of pieces of cannon placed on Woodberry Head
in this Town would be of convenient advantage for the defense of our and their Towns from
the attack of the enemy by sea etc. which was referred to this meeting and act anything
relative to procuring and mounting of cannon in this Town as they shall in their wisdom think
will be most for the public good.
2ly. To see if the Town give any directions relative to the building a breastworks on the sea coast
for the reception of cannon or other safety in this Town and procure necessary materials for
accomplishing the same as they shall think best.
3ly. To see if the Town will come into any measures for procuring of ammunition for the defense and
safety of the Town in such a manner as they shall think best and there was warrants issued out
to William Hazeltine to warn the Ferry and Bald Hill Districts and to Isaac Thorndike to warn
the Farm District and to Nathaniel Creesy to warn Royal Side [Ryal Side] and Bass River
Districts for to warn the same verbally.
