At a meeting of the Selectmen November 14 1774.
Ordered the Town Clerk to issue out the following warrant viz.
Essex, ss.. To Mr. Joseph Woodberry one of the Constables of the Town of Beverly. Greeting.
In his Majesty’s Name you are hereby required forthwith to notify and warn verbally the
Freeholders & other Inhabitants of said Town that are qualified to vote in town affairs to assemble

and meet together on Thursday the 17 day of November instant at one o’clock in the afternoon at
the stated place for holding of Town meetings in said Town for to act on the following particulars
viz.
1ly. To see if the Town will agreeable to the Resolves of the Provincial Congress give their
Constables for the year 1773 and 1774 directions for to pay as soon as may be the Provincial money
that they have or shall collect unto Henry Gardner Esq. of Stow, Receiver General, until further order
from the said Congress or House of Representatives and they producing his receipt therefore to
indemnify all such Constables from all charge that may arise to them by reason of the compliance with
the said directions. And, into such measures for carrying into execution any of the Resolves of the
Provincial Congress as they may think most for the public good.
2ly. To determine what measures they will come into for carrying into execution the late Resolves
and proceedings of the American Continental Congress relative to a non-importation, non-
consumption and non-exportation agreement etc. and pass such votes relative thereto as may then
be thought best.
3ly. To choose some person to serve on the Committee of Correspondence of this Town in the room
of John Leech Esq. also to enlarge said Committee if it is thought best.
4ly. To act on the request of a number of the Freeholders of this town which request is as follows
viz.
1ly. To see if they will purchase a Fire Engine and come into any measures with regard to
firewards.
2ly. To come into such measures as they shall thank proper regulating of firewards within the
same.
3ly. If the town doth not agree to purchase an Engine, and if any number of persons shall
agree to purchase one to excuse them from certain duties as is customary in other Towns and make
Regulations relative there to.
4ly. Pass any votes, make any Regulations with respect to placing said Engine (if purchased
by the Town) when purchased make cisterns for water, choosing of necessary officers or any other
matter or thing relative to the premises that may be then thought proper and also to purchase any
necessary implements relative to the premises.
Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with you doing thereon at or before said time.
Said warrant was a issued out accordingly. Attest.
