1774-08-16th At the meeting of the Selectmen August 16 1774. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Trask 2d six shillings and three pence for the abatement of Dea. Benjamin Trask deceased, poll tax he being sick the most of the year 1773. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Baker six pound eleven shillings and eight pence in full for the expense of town meetings and Selectmen to this day. Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr. presented the following receipt and desired it to be recorded viz. th Recd Boston July 27 1774 of Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr. of Beverly by the hand of Mr. Bartholomew Rand the sum of fourteen pound two shillings and one pence it being the charitable th contribution of the inhabitants of said Beverly on the 14 of July (it being their day of humiliation on the present gloomy aspect of public affairs) for the relief of the poor of this town. £14: 2:David Jeffries Town Treasurer of said some the first parish in this Town gave £10: 4:5 the second Parish gave £ 3:17:8.
