1889-11-05 At a legal meeting of the Selectmen of the town of Beverly held at the Town Hall in said
Town on Wednesday the thirteenth day of November in the year one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-nine pursuant to certain petitions often or more qualified voters in each of the several voting
precincts in said Town stating that they have mason to believe that the returns of the precinct officers
of the votes cast at the annual election held on November fifth, A D. 1889 to be in error in reference
to the office of County Commissioner for the County of Essex, it appearing that all the candidates
voted for for said office had been duly notified of the time and place of holding this meeting, and
David W. Low of Gloucester appeared for himself and Dennis W. Quill of Beverly appeared for
Horace F. Longfellow of Newbury,
William H. Lovett and John F. Hill were appointed Tellers by the Selectmen to assist in re-
counting the ballots and they were duly sworn to the faithful discharge of their duties before Dennis
W. Quill, Justice of peace.
And the said Selectmen did then and there open each of the envelopes containing the ballots
thrown at the several voting precincts, separately, and examine the ballots therein contained and did
determine that the ballots so thrown at the election aforesaid for County Commissioner for the
County of Essex were for the following persons, namely;
For Precinct Number One
Horace F. Longfellow of Newbury, fifty-one votes
David W. Low of Gloucester, forty votes
Samuel Trask of Peabody, twenty-two votes
Blank, thirteen votes
For Precinct Number Two
Horace F. Longfellow of Newbury, thirty-one votes
David W. Low of Gloucester, one hundred and thirty four votes
Samuel Trask of Peabody, ten votes
Blank, thirty votes
For Precinct Number Three
Horace F. Longfellow of Newbury, sixty-nine votes
David W. Low of Gloucester, two handred and twenty votes
Samuel Trask of Peabody, fifteen votes
Blank, twenty-three votes
For Precinct Number Four
Horace F. Longfellow of Newbury, seventy-nine votes
David W. Low of Gloucester, two hundred and seventy votes
Samuel Trask of Peabody, fourteen votes
Blank, twenty-nine votes
For Precinct Number Five
Horace F. Longfellow of Newbury, one hundred and twenty six votes
David W. Low Gloucester, one hundred and eighty four votes
Samuel Trask of Peabody, ten votes
Blank, fifty-two votes
The said Selectmen did then and there return the said ballots to the envelopes and did
properly seal and endorse the said envelopes as required by law and returned them to William H.
Lovett the clerk of said Town together with this certificate of the result of their examination and
determination concerning the subject herein before mentioned.
