1992-05-04RECORDS OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN May 4, 1992 Honorable Board of Aldermen City Hall Beverly, MA 01915 Dear Honorable Board: I want to thank the members of the Board for their interest in Economic Development in the community. Recently, I along with members of the Baord of Aldermen have been having positive regular meeting with the Beverly Business Association and I know you whare my focus that the City must devise a plan and actively work with the business community to encourage businesses to locate in the City of Beverly. The City has for many years provided the direct supportive functions of the City Government to business. However, in this economy and marketplace I think it is imperative that the City formally and proactively recruit business and industry to Beverly. Beverly has many positive attributes which makes it a nice place in which to reside and do business. Beveverly has: 1. Easy access to Rte 128 and the interstates 2. Five rail stations with regular services to the metropolitan area 3. An airport with increasing commercial activity 4. Excellent public services, public safety and public works 5. Excellent infrastructure such as, in terms of quality and quantity, water and sewer services 6. A good educational system 7. Generally speaking Beverly is a lovely, fiscally sound community ideally situated for commerce and has many physical attributes such as our 13 miles coastline and along with surrounding towns has an ever increasing mean family income and represents a good marketplace for skilled labor and an excellent marketplace for goods and services. Beverly has the highest mean family income of any City in the State. Thank you again for your active participation and cooperation with the Office of Mayor and I am optimistic and somewhat bullish on the potential for beverly as an important viable business center in this region. Very truly yours, F. John Monahan Mayor Received and placed on file. COMMUNICATIONS FROM OTHER CITY OFFICERS AND BOARDS: April 30, 1992 Honorable Board of Aldermen City Hall Beverly, MA 01915 Dear Aldermen, RE: Parking on Heather St., area of New Senior Center At a recent site-visit of the new Senior Center, Colon & Heather Streets, a concern was raised about parking on Heather Street in this area. We recommend NO PARKING - TOW AWAY ZONE be posted on Heather Street, both sides, from Colon Street to Westerly Road. Heather Street is used as an Emergency route to Beverly Hospital from Centervllle and the Cove Area and Beverly Farms and by allowing vehicles to park in this area it would endanger the safety of both the people & Vehicles parked as well as the Emergency Vehicles who travel on this street.
