March 21, 1994 Honorable City Council City of Beverly RECORDS OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN Dear Honorable Council: An award has been made against the City of Beverly in the amount of Eigh Hundred Thirty-One Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($831,600.00) for additional compensation for land taken by eminent domain at the foot of the new Beverly/Salem Bridge. We are hopeful of State assistance in paying off this award, and the full amount owing has been included in the Transportation Bond Bill now before the state legislature. However, since interest is accruing at this time at ten (10%) percent, I wish to raspecfully request authority to bond for this obligation as outlined in the attached correspondence from hank counsel. COMMUNICATIONS FROM OTHER CITY OFFICERS AND BOARDS: March 21, 1994 Beverly City Council City Hall, 191 Cabot Street Dear Members of the Council, I am writing this letter to inform you that the Planning Department, at the direction of the Mayor' office, will be submitting a grant application to the State's Executive Office of Communities and Development tomorrow. The grant application seeks $15,000.00 to fund a study of the south parcel of the USM property. As you know, the owners of the property in question will soon be filing a request for rezoning of south parcel, and this study will be designed to assess the impacts of such a rezoning and provide reconmmendations to the City in light of the study's findings. A letter of support for this application from the City Council would strengthen the City's grant request, and I respectfully ask the members to consider making such an endorsement. I have attached a copy of the grant applciation to this letter for your review and several additional copies are available in the Planning Department if individual members would like their own. Citizens are asked to sign up prior to the meeting and to indicate the topic they will be addressing.
