RECORDS OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN
Dear Honorable Council:
An award has been made against the City of Beverly in the amount of Eigh Hundred Thirty-One
Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($831,600.00) for additional compensation for land taken by eminent
domain at the foot of the new Beverly/Salem Bridge.
We are hopeful of State assistance in paying off this award, and the full amount owing has been
included in the Transportation Bond Bill now before the state legislature.
However, since interest is accruing at this time at ten (10%) percent, I wish to raspecfully
request authority to bond for this obligation as outlined in the attached correspondence from
hank counsel.
Very truly yours,
William F. Scanlon, Jr., Mayor
Referred to the Committee on Finance and Property.

Beverly City Council
City Hall, 191 Cabot Street
Dear Members of the Council,
I am writing this letter to inform you that the Planning Department, at the direction of the Mayor'
office, will be submitting a grant application to the State's Executive Office of Communities and
Development tomorrow.
The grant application seeks $15,000.00 to fund a study of the south parcel of the USM property.
As you know, the owners of the property in question will soon be filing a request for rezoning of
south parcel, and this study will be designed to assess the impacts of such a rezoning and
provide reconmmendations to the City in light of the study's findings.
A letter of support for this application from the City Council would strengthen the City's grant
request, and I respectfully ask the members to consider making such an endorsement. I have
attached a copy of the grant applciation to this letter for your review and several additional
copies are available in the Planning Department if individual members would like their own.
Please let me know if I can provide you with any more information.
Respectfully,
Tina P. Casstdy, Planning Director.
