2001-01-17Beverly Charter Commission Minutes of Meeting, January 17, 2001 A meeting of the Beverly Charter Commission was held in City Hall at 7:30 PM on January 17, 2001. All members were present. Mr. Tim Flaherty, President of the City Council, spoke during the public comment period. He indicated the City Council was willing to provide additional funding for the Commission in order to pay for legal fees to draft a minority report. Also Mr. Tom Fallon also spoke during the public comment period. The minutes of the September 20, 2000 meeting were approved 7-2. Mr. John Quinn presented the Commission report. Mary Grant made a motion to establish a sub-committee to draft a minority report. The motion passed unanimously. The members will be Mary Grant, Peter Gilmore, and Crystal Atherton. A motion was made and amended to authorize the expenditure of up to $1,500 initially, with the provision to spend up to $1,000 more, for a total of $2,500, if funds are allocated, for legal and professional opinion for preparation of a minority report. The motion passes 8-1. A motion was made to spend up to $500 for assistance for Mr. Quinn to prepare additional materials for the Attorney General. The motion passes unanimously. The next meeting was scheduled for February 7, 2001. Mr. Tom Fallon spoke during the concluding public comment period. The meeting was adjourned at 10:09 PM.
