2002-10-16Planning & Construction Committee Minutes October 16, 2002 A Meeting of the Planning & Construction Committee was held on Wednesday, October 16, 2002, at 7PM at the Beverly Public Library, 32 Essex Street, Beverly, MA. Members Present: Ray Bouchard, Cheryl Sydorko, Robert Griffin, Tim Brennan, Daniel Skolski and Debbie Comeau Others Present: Ron Bouchard, Sam Bird, Pete Gaudreau The Meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by the Chairman, Mr. Bouchard. th The September 18, 2002 Meeting was canceled due to availability of members. The Building Commission welcomed its’ new member, Daniel Skolski. Mr. Skolski was appointed by Mayor Crean to fill the seat recently vacated by Thad Siemasko. The Commission is in receipt of Mr. Seaman’s report dated October 16, 2002. Mr. Bird updated the Commission on the status of the school building projects. McKeown School: The final repairs have been made by Mello Construction. Ayers Ryal Side School: The financial end has been closed out. Flansburgh is waiting for a “:Consent of Surety” from Castagna and then the last payment will be issued. The School will be closed out. Hannah & Cove Schools: There has been no response from Peabody Construction on finishing punchlist items. North Beverly School: The school is occupied and there is only a small punchlist of approximately $60,000.00 left. Centerville School: The school is now under construction. Preliminary is complete. Mold has recently been discovered on inside walls and chases in the existing portions of the school. A Meeting has been scheduled for this Monday at 11 am with Yee Consulting to discuss rectifying the situation. The Commission is in receipt of a Memorandum from Flansburgh Associates regarding “Change Orders” at Hannah and Cove Schools. The letter details the total amounts paid to Peabody Construction thus far. There is a balance of approximately $711,000 left on the contract. There are about six issues totaling approximately $544,000 left to be remedied. It would be possible to make a payment to Peabody of $167,000. Peabody Construction is looking for a payment of $250,000. Flansburgh has issued to them a “Seven-day Notice”. The Commission has directed Flansburgh to inform Peabody Construction to finish punchlist items if they would like to receive payment. Mr. Bouchard presented the members of the Commission with copies of articles on Mold with regard to Centerville School. The Commission is in receipt of a letter dated September 27, 2002 regarding a “Cost Estimate” to replace the veranda at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club. A Pre-bid meeting was held onsite today and General Bids are due November 6, 2002. Minutes October 16, 2002 Page Two The Commission is in receipt of a memo dated October 9, 2002 regarding the boiler replacement at the high school. Flansburgh Associates 24336 1,951.20 Mr. Griffin motioned that the invoices be paid as presented. The motion was seconded by Ms. Sydorko and carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM.
