February 2019 Veterans Council MinutesJerry Guilebbe called the meeting to order at 5:00pm.   Veterans council members present:  Jerry Guilebbe, President  Charles “Buddy” Rehal, Vice President Donald O’Connor Ron Genest  Robert Laws Chuck Clark   Advisory members and guests:  None Reading and Approval of the Minutes The minutes were handed out to all members in attendance for review. Jerry Guilebbe made a motion to accept the minutes. Motion was seconded and passed. COMMITTEE REPORTS Financial Report – David Perinchief was not available to give the financial report. UNFINISHED BUSINESS  Beverly Veterans Memorial Committee - Per Chuck Clark, the last voice over has been completed. The app will be installed at the park in the Spring. Flag Retirement Ceremony - The council is working on having a flag retirement ceremony on June 14 (Flag Day) @ Lynch Park with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Jerry Guilebbe will contact Bruce Doig to see if Lynch Park is available on this day. Veterans Council - The names of new council members have been sent to Mayor Cahill and have passed the first reading at the last City Council Meeting. The names will be read again at the next meeting, once this has taken place, the committee will be officially in place. Memorial Middle School Plaques – Jerry Guilebbe has contact Mayor Cahill and the School Committee. They will all be working on getting the original plaques put up in the new middle school. Cory Paulette and Chuck Clark will pick up the Joe Vittori Plaque at the Vittori Rocci Post and get it to Mike Collins. NEW BUSINESS Massachusetts Medal of Liberty - Jerry Guilebbe brought up a letter he received from State Rep. Jerry Parisella on the Massachusetts Medal of Liberty. This medal is for the surviving spouses, children, parents, nieces, a nephews of soldiers killed in action. There is a letter and application available online at www.massnationalguard.org/announcements. POW/MIA Memorial – Jerry Guilebbe, Cory Paulette, Chuck Clark, and Paul Lantz met with Councilor Martin on a POW/MIA Memorial. A discussion was held regarding adding a Gulf War Memorial at the same time. More discussion is to be had regarding how to the cost of the memorial and how to fund it. Vietnam Veterans Day Program –There will be a ceremony at Vietnam Veterans plaza on March 29, 2019 @ 5pm. There will also be a ceremony on March 30, 2019 at 10am at Beverly Hospital at the Vietnam Memorial Wall. There will be a collation at the Vittori Rocci Post. Buddy Rehal will follow up. Memorial Day – Discussed that the National Guard will not be able to attend the parade this year due to training so there will be no artillery unit. This will be a problem for the Beverly Farms Parade since they rely on the gun for firing at the beach. The council will look into other options. Another discussion was had regarding how to get other military vehicles for the Memorial Day Parade. Budget – Discussed the budget and which funds are available to fund events, such as cookout, flag retirement, and other events. GOOD OF THE ORDER ADJOURNMENT  A motion was made to adjourn the meeting.  Motion was seconded and carried.   The next meeting will be March 28, 2019.
