November 2020 Veterans Council MinutesJerry Guilebbe called the meeting to order at 5:00pm. Veterans council members present: Jerry Guilebbe, President Susan Moran Paul Weinberg Paul Lantz David Perinchief Bob Laws Cory Paulette Chuck Clark Ron Genest Advisory members and guests: Jan Pierce Bruce Doig, Director of Parks and Recreation Reading and Approval of the Minutes: Bob Laws made a motion to accept the October meeting minutes. Motion was seconded and carried. Financial Report No changes from last meeting. Check to American Legion for golf tournament. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Veterans Day Recap – Jan Pierce has been begging some coworkers to come and see a few things. There were a few people in her office when the wreathe was placed and it was very emotional and more people should see it. A wreathe was placed of the Beverly Farms Memorial. There was about half a dozen people in attendance. A video was done at the hospital veterans memorial, Odell Park, and Vietnam Veterans Plaza. Matt Goldberg sent Jerry Guilebbe the video. The video will be aired on BevCam. Matt will let Jerry know when it will air and Jerry will make copies for everyone. Flag Removal - The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts took care of removing the flags from North Beverly and Central Cemetery. North Beverly was done with Chuck Clark, Cory Paulette, and Jerry Guilebbe. Central Cemetery was done with Jerry. Sean Murray and some Farms residents took care of removing the flags from the Farms Cemetery. Paul Weinberg took care of the Jewish cemetery. St. Mary’s does have a few flags left. Jerry will call then and pull them up himself if necessary. Thanksgiving Turkeys – David Perinchief has five turkeys left if anyone knows of anyone who needs turkey. Jerry received a thank you not and a donation from the family of Mr. Kelly. NEW BUSINESS Veterans Coffee at the Vittori-Rocci Post – Coffee time is back up and running. Certificate for Dr. Kowalski – The Air Force is sending a command coin, the Naval Training Command is waiting for his coin order to come in. The Army sent David Perinchief the documents that he needs to fill out and send back. Marine Corps doesn’t have its own dental branch and the Coast Guard falls under civilian practice. Josh Curtis, was a bronze star recipient from Beverly. He does woodworking and is interested in doing the woodworking for the plaque. Colonial Brass said they will make the plaque. David is looking for historical pictures of the dental command. Vietnam Veterans Plaza – Per Bruce Doig it is a City park. GOOD OF THE ORDER Early on Veterans Day, Paul Weinberg was contacted by one of the City Counselors, who was contacted by an outraged citizen representing several other citizens. They were upset there was no word put out about Veterans Day observance. Paul informed the City Counselor that the Salem New published that the services would all be private but would be available on BevCam. Mayor Cahill did reverse 911 calls with this same information. Chuck Clark asked how Susan’s daughter was feeling since she has been sick. She is still sick but getting better. Paul Weinberg asked if Representative Seth Moulton was asked to join in the ceremonies on Veterans Day. Per David, Mr. Moulton was unable to attend. Jerry Guilebbe suggested cancelling the December meeting, everyone agreed. The next meeting will be held on January 28, 2021. Adjournment – Paul Weinberg made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded and carried.
