April 2023 Veterans Council MinutesVeterans Advisory Council Meeting Minutes April 27, 2023 Present:Buddy Rehal, Ron Genest, Paul Lantz, David Perinchief, Cory Paulette, Chuck Clark, Bob Laws, Jan Pierce, Susan Moran Next meeting:May 25, 2023 at 5pm, Beverly City Hall, 3rd Floor Call to Order – Chuck Clark called the meeting to order at 5pm. Introduction of Guests – John Curry Reading and Approval of the Minutes – Cory Paulette made a motion to accept the minutes. Motion was seconded and carried. Financial Report – The balance remains the same at $13, 085.13. Unfinished Business Bench in Honor of Jerry Guilebbe – The bench cannot be placed at the West beach. It has been suggested to put a bench at the Beverly Farms library. Warrior Weekend Update – Coast Guard confirmed that we were approved for the chopper on Sunday. Fire Dept and Police Dept are aware. Second combat group is coming for a martial arts demonstration. The Staff t-shirts are done. The ceremony will begin at 2pm on Sunday. Mike Collins’ father is being recognized for performing Taps at 7500 burials around the North Shore. He has received awards from every branch of the military except the Marine Corps. The Marine Corps. Is going to try to do a write up and a presentation for him so that he will have an award from every branch of service. The Army Color Guard will be attending the weekend. The Navy Band is locked in for Saturday. People can scan the QR code to get the event times. The Marine Corps. is pushing the weekend out on their social media. Salem News will do an article and the Patch will run an article two weeks out. The other branches of military are pushing it out on their media. The road signs will go out on 128 next week and one on the Salem Bridge. What’s Brewin and A&B Burger will be providing food and drinks. Joe’s on a Roll and Bonefish Harry’s may be there. David Perinchief would like the veteran groups to provide a cookout for the ROTC kids. They will be exhausted from the competitions all day. Todd Rotondo has offered to help out with the cookout. David spoke to the trophy store in Lynn and they will put together a perpetual cup that can be presented each year. They are going to try to be a Massachusetts Minuteman on top. The map where everyone is going to be will go out tomorrow. Cory Paulette needs a list of all the deceased from the posts. Cheryl Poppe, the head of DVS, is going to be the guest speaker. Cemetery Flagging for Memorial Day - Tuesday, May 23, St. Mary’s @ 4pm. Wednesday, May 24, Central Cemetery @ 4pm. Cory Paulette will ask ROTC for help with Central Cemetery. Saturday, May 27, North Beverly Cemetery at 8:30am. Beverly Farms Cemetery, May 19 @ 6pm. Jewish Cemetery – Cory will reach out to Paul Weinberg. If no none is available, Susan Moran will flag the Jewish cemetery. Jan Pierce will get some snacks. She will contact Royce Serpa from Dunkin Donuts. New Business Iraq and Afghanistan veterans - Buddy Rehal has had Iraq and Afghanistan veterans from Beverly calling him to ask what we have done for them. We do not have any monuments for them. Buddy made a motion to get pricing and locations for a monument. Motion was seconded and carried. Chuck would like these veterans included in the discussion. David Perinchief suggested starting the groundwork and put something in the paper that we need that generation of veterans to come in and give their input. Spear Post Annual Golf Outing - Ron Genest asked the council to sponsor a hole at the Spear Post’s annual golf outing which helps to provide scholarships. It will be held June 10th at the Wenham Country Club. The cost is $100. Chuck Clark made a motion to sponsor a hole. Motion was seconded and carried. Toys for Tots July Event - David Perinchief has a flyer with a QR code for tickets. He will send it out to the council. He is looking to get 300 low income kids. It will be held July 22 from 10am-3pm at David’s office. Announcements Buddy Rehal would like to recognize Ron Genest for being elected again as Commander. David Perinchief announced that there will be an article in the Patch for PACT Act and tracking down widows and/or widowers whose family died due to agent orange.
