BCOA May 3, 2022 -revised.docx (3) Beverly Council on Aging Director's Meeting Date: May 3, 2022 Place: BCOA Members Present: Blair Smith, Claire-Marie Hart, Bob Hobbs, Cynthia Montalbano, Jessica Wistran, Esquire, Susan Feeney, Rich Tabbut, Barrence Whitfield, Stephanie Tallo Staff Present: MaryAnn Holak, Director, Bruce Doig, Director of Community Services Meeting called to order: 1:00 pm Secretary's Report: Minutes were accepted as written from meetings on March 4, 2022 and April 5, 2022 Director's Report Building Concerns and Usage Phones were installed on the second floor—dining room and health room. No updates currently on carpet replacement for lobby, upstairs hall and program office Senior Care, Inc. RSVP program —volunteer event held in the dining room in April. Administration and Finance Financial YTD reports were distributed for review. Program and Events Activities for Older Americans Month, with the thee"AGE MY WAY" include: May 5 11:00 am Mother's Day Luncheon Piano music by Bob Kendall. May 9, 11:45 West Side Story-new version of a classic film May 12 4:00 pm Howie Newman's Musical Baseball Show May 16 1:00 pm Advocacy and You! Human Rights Committee Meeting May 17 10:30am Ted Talk and Cafe' conversation discussion on a TED talk by Jared Diamond on "How Societies can Grow Old Better" May 17 11:00 am Older American's Celebration, Free "Traveling Chef' roast beef carving station luncheon provided by Senior care. May 19 4:00 pm Opening exhibit and conversation of telling Our Stories Project. See photos and hear stories from some of Beverly's older residents. Light refreshments will be served. May 24 & 26 10:00 am Join the walking Club, walk the BHS Track. Walk in the Woods—Wednesday at 11:00 am registration is closed with 28 participants. This project is a collaboration with Open Space and Recreation Committee using their complied list of Beverly's Parks for passive recreation. Lives Well Lived Event at the Cabot Cinema was well attended and enjoyed by the audience. Senior Care had a volunteer event at the Center on April 28' Spring Yard Clean up, organized by the SSU social work intern has now been completed. Mary Ann is currently looking to solve our coffee situation. Due to the fact the building had been closed due to COVID the coffee service vendor has withdrawn the equipment on loan to us. Looking into the best options. MaryAnn attended a Mandatory training for Dept. Heads on new systems for managing assets to be implemented. Bruce Doig presented information to the Board on the Assisted living formerly known as Landmark Senior Housing in Beverly, is now Monarch Senior Housing. Sixty-seven residents will have 90 days to vacate due to a renovation project. Residents have no guarantees that they can return after the renovation. Sen. Joan Lovely, State Rep. Jerry Parisella met with State Secretary of Elder Affairs in response to the situation. The news reports distributed to the Board made it clear that Monarch's decision has devastated the senior residents and their families. Local agencies, such as Senior Care of North Shore, North Shore Community Action Program and Harbor light Community Partners are all trying to help residents find housing. Case Review Meetings continue bi-weekly - housing and homelessness is still a concern. Personnel Update Update on assistant Director Search Activities Coordinator Vacancy Starting on May 6 Interviews for a Merrimack Fellow for August 2022 scheduled for May 13 Summer Activities Assistant has been hired Unfinished Business Jessica presented information on the Board Member Emeritus. This policy will allow Board members in good standing to remain involved in Board activities, if they would like and are able to. However, they would not be a voting member. Jessica's submission has been approved to go forward by the Board. A policy that guides them if a member of the public requests to address the Board was approved.
