MINUTES 9-22 City Councilor Scott Houseman believes the complaints may not be legitimate and would like
the Board to work with Deeley's on this. Mr. Handley said the Deeley's should apply for an
amendment so all abutters would have due process. Mr. Dole reminded all that the Board can
seek to prevent a potential nuisance. City Councilor Estelle Rand also appealed to Board to work
with Deeley's.
Mr. Alpine is not prepared to rule on this issue at this time. He wants to see the Deeley's submit
documentation of best farm practices and work with the ACO on an amended application. Ms.
Higgins is troubled the Deeley's did not come before them to amend their permit, as she is a
proponent of local farming. Ms. Higgins moved to table the issue and have the Deeley's
resubmit, if interested, a permit application amendment and involve the ACO. Mr. Alpine
seconded. Mr. Burke explained the process and a customer spoke in favor of Beverly Bees, the
Deeley's business.
Mr. Burke had updates for the Board:
Teresa Kirsch stated there have been 4159 COVID cases in Beverly, with 3800 recovered, and
213 deaths. There are 70-80 currently active cases, averaging 65 cases per week. The schools
have been testing asymptomatic students. Joyce Prior, a former school nurse and now a part time
Health Department nurse, has been a liaison between Health and the schools.
Mr. Burke has spoken to Mayor Cahill about the Physician vacancy on the Board. The Mayor
has reached out to a doctor with whom he is acquainted for possible candidates. Mr. Burke
subsequently provided information to the Mayor to forward to the doctor, including sample
agendas, 2 years of Annual Reports, and a brief synopsis of activities. He has not heard back and
will follow up with the Mayor.
The annual Health Department Flu Clinic will be held on October 12 in the Council on Aging
building. It will be for Beverly residents and employees ages 19+. A limited amount of High
Dose will be available for ages 65+. Booster COVID shots remain to be seen.
There is moderate risk level of mosquito borne illness. It may be too cold for spraying.
Ms. Higgins motioned to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Alpine seconded.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
The next scheduled meeting is October 20, 2021.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Alpine
