1999-06-02PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE MINUTES SPECIAL MEETING JUNE 2, 1999 A Meeting of the Planning & Construction Committee was held on Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at 7 PM at the Beverly Public Library, Essex Street, Beverly, MA. Present were: Raymond Bouthard, Timothy Brerman, Debbie Comeau, Maureen Hobin, Thad Siemasko, Rodney Maxnet and Robert G~iTm. Also present were: Judith Mulligan, Peter Searoans, Ron Bouchard and Sam Bird. The Meeting was called to Order at 7:12 PM by Chairman, Raymond Bouchard. The Commission is in receipt of correspondence Mr. Bouthard received on behalf of the Mayor and Commission giving written recommendation as to who to award the Contract to on the Hannah/Cove School Projects. This recommendation is based on references, track records, etc. The General Contractor base bids were as follows: Peabody Construction Co., Inc. 536 Granite Street Braintree, MA 02184-9107 $14,248,000 Castagna Construction Corp. 65 Parker Street Newburyport, MA 01950 $14,393,000 John T. Callahan & Sons, Inc. 80 First Street, PO Box 397 Bridgewater, MA 02324 $14,400,000 PJ Stella Construction Corp. 50 Main Street Wakefield, MA 01880 $14,849,000 * Alternative I on the bid is for additional masonry work. **Altemative II on the bid is for floor tile removal. The Commission is in receipt of a letter dated June 1, 1999 from Flansburgh & Associates in which they recommend that the Commission award the Contract to Peabody Construction Company, Inc., the low bidder. All qualifications and references have been checked by Flansburgh & Associates. Minutes 6/2/99 Page Two Ms. Hobin moved that based upon a written recommendation from Earl R. Flansburgh & Associates, Inc. dated June 1, 1999; The Planning & Construction Committee recommend to the Mayor that the contraction contract be awarded to Peabody Construction Co., Inc., 536 Granite Street, Braintree, MA 02184, for the total as bid mount of the base bid plus Alternate #1 which is $14,289,000. This Motion was seconded by Mr. Maxner and carded unanimously. Mr. Maxher made a Motion to recommend to the Mayor to ask City Council for appropriation of $19,908,096 for Hannah/Cove School Projects based on $156.00/sq.ft. cost. This Motion was seconded by Mr. Griffin and Carded unanimously. The Commission is in receipt of a copy of "RFP For Site Feasibility Study and Preliminary Design Services For a Consolidated Public Safety Facility". Mr. Siemasko made a Motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 PM which was seconded by Mr. Griffin. The Motion was carried unanimously. Respectfully submitted, Debra Ann Comeau Secretary
