1995-12-09ELEMENTARY FACILITIES BUILDING COMMISSION MINUTES The first meeting of the Elementary Facilities Building Commission was held on Tuesday, December 19, 1995 at 7:30 p.m. at the Briscoe Middle School. Present were Nancy Levin, Lawrence Chase, Michael Lauranzano, John Drislane and Judith Mulligan. A discussion was held regarding the size of the core facilites (gymnasium, library, etc.) at each school. It was agreed that they should be designed with community access in mind and should be comparable at each school. The availability of land suitable for playing fields for soccer and baseball at each school was also discussed. The commission would like to see such fields included in the overall plans if possible. There was a discussion about the acquisition of land for the new McKay school and to expand the Ayers school site. Dr. Chase brought up the issue of when input from the school staff would be appropriate during the design process. Ms. Levin and Mr. Drislane wanted to ensure input was also received from staff of schools slated to be closed. Some discussion was held as to how best to include all groups (principals, teachers, librarians, food service staff, parents, etc.) in the design process. It was agreed that to keep the number of people directly involved to a minimum due to time constraints, it would be best to use representatives of each group from each school. A series of meetings was established to proceed with the selection of an architect. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Briscoe Middle School. Architect interviews will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 1996 starting at 3:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 3, 1996 starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Briscoe Middle School. The building commission will meet on Thursday, January 4, 1996 at 7:00 p.m. at the Briscoe Middle School to choose a finalist(s). It will be Mrs. Mulligan's responsibility to publicly post all meetings. Respectfully submitted, Judith A. Mulligan Secretary/Clerk
