1996-06-24ELEMENTARY FACILITY BUILDING COMMISSION MINUTES A meeting of the Elementary Facilities Building Commission was held on Monday, June 24, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at the Briscoe Middle School in the School Committee room. Present were Nancy Levin, Mike Lauranzano, Judy Mulligan, Rod Maxner, Michele Gordon, Building Inspector Tim Brennan, Jeanne Kuespert and Earl Flansburgh of ERF+A and Mike Radner of Geller Assoc. Jeanne Kuespert handed out an agenda. The first item to be discussed was the archaeological survey. Three proposals were received. Mike L. made a motion to award the work to The Public Archaeological Laboratory, Inc. for $5,356 as long as their proposal will meet Mass. Historical Commission requirements regarding the number of test pits required. They will be a consultant working through ERF+A. Nancy seconded and it was voted 2-0. Mike L. made a motion to accept alternate #1 for Hannah parking. Nancy seconded and iLwas voted 2-0. This will be presented to the ConCom for its approval at its next meeting. At this time the cost overage of the total project is $1,857,196. Jeanne handed out a list of possible reductions to be voted on by the Building Commission. Mike L. made a motion and Nancy seconded to eliminate the following: Reduce doors/frames by $119 each Savings: 59,168 VCT @ stage to maple 15,389 Delete 5/8 GWB from ext. wall assembly 8,000 Reduce contingency to 7.5% (7% @ New) 1,149,000 Delete fire pump 165,000 Delete fire curtain @ stage 64,000 Eliminate emergency generator @ New 35,000 Reduce quality of plumbing 18,100 Reduce quality of lighting (corridors only) 20,350 Revise new pitched roof at cafe. to flat 83,976 A few items were added: Add new floor to Hannah gym (22,128) Add new divider curtain to Hannah gym (6,800) Add new basketball backstops at Hannah gym (4,800) Add smoke detectors at corridors (30,000) The total cost overage at this point is $302,941. The above changes were voted 2-0. The Building Commission will meet with the mayor in the near future to discuss ways to address this issue. Other items to be discussed with the mayor include fencing at the new school, irrigation of the soccer field, and appointment of the new building commission. Judy will find out if the City Council approved the permit waiver and if the hazardous materials consultant has started work yet.
