2004-01-09 RetreatBEVERLY PUBLIC SCHOOLS BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS January 9 & 10, 2004 A retreat of the Beverly School Committee was held on Friday, January 9, 2004, and Saturday, January 10, 2004, in Birchmont Hall at Endicott College, Beverly, Massachusetts. School Committee Members Present: Ms. Brusil, Ms. Cesa, Ms. Cronin, Ms. Gordon, Ms. Saxton, Mayor Scanlon, Mr. Tallo Others Present: Dr. Lupini, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Hayes, Assistant Superintendent Heidi Zimmerman, Administrator of Finance & Operations Friday, January 9, 2004, the retreat began at 6:30 PM. The following city officials were also in attendance: City Council Members Present: Mr. John Burke, Mr. Ron Costa, Mr. Bill Coughlin, Ms. Pat Grimes, Mr. Kevin Hobin, Mr. Don Martin Building Commission Members Present: Mr. Tim Brennan, Mr. Bob Griffin, Ms. Maureen Hobin, Mr. Rod Maxner, Ms. Cheryl Sydorko Mr. Phil Poinelli, Chief Architect at Symmes Maini & McKee addressed the various proposals regarding renovation and/or construction at Beverly High School, the high school accreditation issue and the School Building Assistance (SBA) program. The evening session adjourned at 8:34 PM. Saturday, January 10, 2004, the retreat began at 9 AM. Ms. Debra O’Connor, Director of Pupil Personnel joined this session. Naomi R. Stonberg, Esquire (school district attorney), presented a "School Law Primer." Topics included: Open Meeting Law, and a various other legal issues. Following Ms. Stonberg’s presentation, members participated in a working session, exchanging ideas for School Committee goals. Ms. Cronin will review suggestions and present to the full committee. Also discussed were topics of interest for future retreats, and the schedule of upcoming meetings. The retreat adjourned at 1 PM. Annemarie Cesa Secretary
