Others present: William Burke, Director of Public Health, Thomas Scully, Director of
Community Services, Pat Zingariello, Public Health Nurse and Pat Goelhert, Tobacco
Control Collaborative.

Meeting opened at 7:30 a.m.
The Board reviewed and accepted the minutes of May 23, 2002.
Mr. Burke informed the Board that Tans-R-In has renewed their license for 2002.
The Health department has completed the third week of testing beaches, to date, all results within
acceptable parameters.
Mr. Laine Chase, 63 Ober Street has just about completed work on new system.
Pat Zingariello gave the Board updates on her summer program. Educational information on
West Nile Virus, Skin Cancer, and Lyme Disease are just some topics being distributed to
newspapers. Posters have been put in Library.
Pat Goelhert from Tobacco Control informed the Board that more towns are meeting and
showing interest in Clean Air Works and the regional approach.
Chairman Carbone discussed with the members the procedure for a new set of regulations banning
smoking in all Beverly public places, workplaces including restaurants, bars and private clubs. An
October 1, 2002 implementation date was agreed on. A draft, based on Clean Air Works is
available for circulation. Mr. Hersee motioned to adopt the draft ordinance and hold a second
public hearing. Mr. Walsh seconded the motion. Board unanimous. Public hearing date to be
scheduled soon, followed by a final vote at August meeting.
The date of next meeting not yet scheduled.
