An Organization Meeting of the Beverly School Committee was held on Monday, January 7, 2002, at
the Beverly High School Library, Beverly, MA.
Members Present: Ms. Bell, Ms. Brusil, Ms. Coburn, Mayor Crean,
Ms. Cronin, Ms. Norris and Mr. Tallo.
Members Absent: None
Also in Attendance: William Lupini, Superintendent of Schools,
Judy DeLucia, Assistant Superintendent,
James Hayes, Assistant Superintendent,
Hans Baumhauer, Director of Operations
and Institutional Development, and
Judy Mulligan, School Business Manager.
Superintendent Bill Lupini called the meeting to order at 6:33 PM.
Dr. Lupini stated the reason for the meeting:
In accordance with Section B, School Committee Governance and Operations, of the Policy
Manual, "An Organizational Meeting shall be held the first Monday in January at which
time the officers of the School Committee shall be elected."
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Office of President
Superintendent Lupini declared nominations open for the Office of President.

It was moved by Ms. Norris and seconded to nominate Ms. Coburn.

It was moved by Ms. Bell and seconded to nominate Ms. Brusil.
·
It was moved by Ms. Brusil and seconded to close nominations. So voted.
A roll call vote on the nominations resulted in the following:
Voting for Ms. Coburn: Ms. Norris, Mr. Tallo, Ms. Coburn, Ms. Cronin
Voting for Ms. Brusil: Ms. Bell, Ms. Brusil, Mayor Crean
The vote being 4 for Ms. Coburn and 3 for Ms. Brusil, Ms. Coburn was elected President.
Superintendent Lupini turned the meeting over to the newly elected President.

Ms. Coburn declared nominations open for the Office of Vice President.

It was moved by Ms. Norris and seconded to nominate Ms. Cronin.

There being no further nominations, it was moved, seconded and voted to close nominations.
A roll call vote on the nomination resulted in the following:
For Ms. Cronin: Mr. Tallo, Ms. Bell, Ms. Brusil, Mayor Crean,
Ms. Cronin, Ms. Norris and Ms. Coburn.
Ms. Cronin was elected Vice President.
Office of Secretary
Ms. Coburn declared nominations open for the Office of Secretary.

It was moved by Ms. Cronin and seconded to nominate Ms. Norris.

There being no further nominations, it was moved, seconded and voted to close nominations.
A roll call vote on the nomination resulted in the following:
For Ms. Norris: Ms. Bell, Ms. Brusil, Mayor Crean, Ms. Cronin,
Ms. Norris, Mr. Tallo and Ms. Coburn.
Ms. Norris was elected Secretary.
First Reading - Proposed Change in Policy
Superintendent Lupini presented a First Reading of the revised policy on "Regular School
Committee Meetings".
Meeting Schedule

It was moved by Ms. Norris and seconded to approve the Meeting Schedule for spring 2002,
as proposed for regular meetings and standing committee meetings, as required by the City
Charter. Unanimously voted.
Standing Committees
Ms. Cronin solicited information and preference from members as to committees they would like
to serve on. Assignments, including citizen advisor appointments, will be announced at the
th
regular meeting on Wednesday, January 16.

It was moved by Ms. Brusil and seconded to adjourn. Unanimously voted.
The meeting adjourned at 6:50 PM.
