A retreat of the Beverly School Committee was held on Friday, January 4, 2002, and
Saturday, January a5, 2002, in Birchmont Hall at Endicott College, Beverly,
Massachusetts.

Members Present: Ms. Norris, Ms. Brusil, Ms. Bell, Ms. Coburn.

Members Elect Present: Ms. Cronin, Mr. Tallo, Mayor-Elect Mr. Crean.
Others Present: Dr. Lupini, Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Hayes, Assistant Superintendent
On Friday, January 4, 2002, the retreat began at 6:10 PM.
Naomi R. Stonberg, Esquire (school district attorney), presented a "School Law Primer."
Topics included: Education Reform Legislation, the Collective Bargaining Process,
Open Meeting Law, and a Practical Guide to the Conflict of Interest Law.
The evening session adjourned at 8:34 PM.
On Saturday, January 5, 2002, the retreat began at 8:50 AM.
Paul McGowan, consultant in strategic planning for school districts, presented
information about his program for "Strategic Leadership Development."
Mike Gilbert, Massachusetts Association of School Committees, presented information
about the roles and responsibilities of school committees and writing achievable goals as
a committee.
The retreat adjourned at 3:40 PM.
