The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m.
The Board reviewed and accepted the minutes of the May 17, 2001 meeting..
In the first order of business, Mr. Burke introduced Ms. Pauline Collins, 14 Walden Street who
has been complaining about noise and nuisances at A.T.&T. Broadband, 12 Tozer Road which
abuts her property. Ms. Collins reports that dumpsters are being serviced much earlier than 7 a.m.
When the first.shift from Broadband starts at 6:30 a.m. there is more noise from traffic and the
backup beeps from trucks, and lights shining into neighbors windows. Another neighbor has
concerns about late night traffic and noise.
Mr. Burke introduced Mike Hastings, District Manager, Waste Management Co. who has already
agreed not to empty dumpsters so early. Also present was David Johnson, Manager, A. T. & T.
Broadband who told neighbors he would work with them fully to mediate the problems. The
parties exchanged telephone numbers for direct contact when problems occur.
Chairman Carbone thanked both representatives for meeting with neighbors and hoped situation
would be worked out. Mr. Burke will revisit the issue for September meeting.
Pat Zingariello, Public Health Nurse informed the Board that she had attended a meeting recently
regarding the planning ora school-based Health Center. Some of the things discussed were the
location, where the monies would come from, staffing, billing and reimbursements from insurance
companies. Another meeting scheduled for July 9th. Chairman Carbone asked to be kept informed
of plans being made.
Mr. Burke and Mr. Scully, Director of Community Services met recently with Mayor Scanlon
regarding the 2002 Budget. Copies of budget requests were handed to Board members. The
Council Committee on budget is June 13, 2001. Members welcome to attend.
Pat Zingariello reported to the Board that she held a'Women's Health Day at the Senior Center
providing bone density screenings and information on osteoporosis through Beverly Hospital.
Men's Health Day is June 18t. She is also planning a day at the Recreation Department,
presenting information and issues on sun & skin cancer, Lyme disease and West Nile Virus, etc.
Mr. Burke asked the Board if letters should be mailed out to restaurants which were granted
variances to the smoking regulations last year. The variances expire September 1, 2001 and they
need to re-apply. Discussion of changing from partial smoking ban to total ban was put on hold
until fall. Mr. Burke to mail out renewal applications.
The following dates have been scheduled for meetings: July 19th, August 23rd, and September
13th, 2001.
