Meeting called to order at 7:30 a.m.
The Board reviewed and accepted the minutes of October 18, 2001.
Mr. Bob Panunzio from theY.M.C.A.of North Shore, Beverly Branch requests a variance of 105
CMR 435.000 “Minimum Standards for Swimming Pools” (State Sanitary Code, Chapter V).
Specifically, 435.02 Plan Approval-exempting the requirement of stamp of Registered
Professional Engineer or Architect for SPA Remodel.
Motion was made by Mr. Hersee and seconded by Mr. Spector to approve the variance pending
Chairman Carbone’s request that Mr. Reale inspect the spa and find it in compliance.
Mr. Hersee asked for an update on Chase property, 63 Ober Street. Mr. Burke and Mr. Reale
informed Board that a new engineer had been hired with a new plan to be submitted for approval.
The Board thanked Ms. Zingariello, Public Health Nurse for her monthly reports. Pat and Bill
have been attending regional meetings in Tewksbury, meetings with Mayor Scanlon and other
department representatives regarding bio-terrorism, etc. She has also held two successful flu
clinics and planning a third.
Mr. Burke presented the Board with updates. He stated that Walgreen’s was in process of serving
30-day suspension of tobacco sale permit thru November 30, 2001.
Lil Peach is scheduled for suspension November 20 & 21, 2001. The Tobacco Collaborative
personnel will continue to monitor.

Mr. Burke, Mr. Reale, and Ms.Zingariello recently attended the 34 Annual Massachusetts Health
Officers Conference, held in Hyannis. Educational seminars were offered, providing opportunity
to earn Continuing Educational Units which are necessary to maintain their professional licenses.
Some of the topics offered were Bio-terrorism, Septic Systems, Title V, the Environment, Public

Health Nursing, and Food Codes.
The Beverly Board of Health and Beverly Hospital are sponsoring a Seminar on November 27,
2001 at Beverly Hospital. The subject Bio-terrorism and Public Health will be presented by Bela
Matyas, MD, Medical Director, Division of Epidemiology, Mass. Dept. Public Health. The
presentation is limited to Healthcare Personnel and Emergency Services only.
The Health Department has had several reports of suspect anthrax. All returned reports have been
negative.
The Board discussed inviting the new Mayor-Elect Tom Crean to future meeting. Mr. Burke will
offer the invitation upon meeting the Mayor-Elect.
The next scheduled meeting is December18, 2001.
