2001-12-18City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Board of Health Subcommittee: Date: December 18, 2001 Place: Beverly Council on Aging, Arts & Crafts Room Board members present: Frank Carbone, Jr., M.D, Norman Spector and Peter A. Hersee Board members absent: Others present: William Burke, Director of Public Health and Thomas Scully, Director of Community Services Recorder: Judith Balboni. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m. The Board reviewed and accepted the minutes of November 15, 2001 meeting. Mr. Burke updated the Board on several matters. Tobacco Youth Access Compliance checks done recently found Seven-Eleven, West Street non-compliant for the first time. A warning letter will be sent. More compliance checks of food establishments will be carried out in January. The Tobacco Collaborative has hired a new person who has been doing some work, actually in our office. Walgreen’s and Lil Peach both served out their respective permit suspensions without incident. The Board Tobacco Collaborative as agents of the Board of Health. Motion made by Mr. Spector, seconded by Mr. Hersee and all in favor voted to accept. A third and final flu clinic was held. Remaining vaccine was offered to school nurses, nursing homes and private practices. Ms. Zingariello also went to the River House shelter to administer shots. Next year it is hoped that we can plan a Saturday Clinic in October at the Senior Center. Diane Kurkjian has completed all rooming house inspections for the year and paperwork has been submitted to the city clerk’s office for renewal of licenses. Mr. Reale and Mr. Burke have been working with YMCA regarding pool. It is nearly ready. Variance approval will be sent to state for their review and approval. Mr. Laine Chase, 63 Ober Street is in process of installing new septic system. Mr. Burke has been meeting with Hazardous Waste Committee. April 27, 2002 is the date scheduled for Household Collection Day. Mr. Burke and Ms. Zingariello have been attending meetings at Salem State for the planning of a Regional Wellness Fair to be held April 28, 2002. Mr. Burke and Ms. Zingariello are also attending meetings for plans of a school-based Health Clinic. Mr. Burke has been notified by Ms. Kathy Myers that we will be receiving a Delta Dental grant for $17,000. This is for Beverly-Gloucester. Restaurant and retail market inspections are ongoing. Renewal of licenses is in process. Mr. Burke is seeking part-time inspector(s). Mr. Burke asked Board to set up dates for the next three meetings.
