2000-12-07 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Parks and Recreation Commission Subcommittee: Date: December 7, 2000 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Bruce Doig, Elizabeth Caputo, Mark Casey, David Gardner, Kevin Hobin, Arthur Powell, Patti Adams, Lauren Young Board members absent: Ivy Mahan Others present: Joan Fairbank, Recreation Director; Tom Scully, Previous minutes were accepted as written. DIRECTOR'S REPORT · Hannah School Equipment: Joan met with Phil and discussed using a site near the access road not the site near the swings that the group wanted to use. A fence would be needed. No other area seemed suitable. · Falconer restoration is complete. · Chris Bradley finishing the spec on the concession stand at Harry Ball Field · Current Budget: were asked by the Mayor to prepare for a possible 10% reduction in the present budget ($32,000). Cuts will be made from: building maintenance, equipment repair, Homecoming. Lauren Young asked how this would effect the next budget. Tom was not sure, be explained how insurance premiums (City is self insured) has created the need for this budget reduction. It is still not definite that this will be necessary. · New Budget: discussed a report prepared by Mark Casey on the Enterprise Account. · Discussed the idea from John Dunn that the City bond for all the playground equipment with the repayments being made by the Lynch Trustees, our department and the city over the course of several years. Number of years and amount of annual payment to be determined. Amount of $25,000 per year as our share was discussed and how this could be generated. MASTER PLAN · Asked everyone to bring to the next meeting their ideas for facilities, fields, buildings, etc. NEW BUSINESS · Discussed recent bill from plumber for closing Harry Ball Field for the season, Joan wants Little League to continue to pay this bill, Commission agreed, · Joan suggested setting the date for the Field Meeting, Late Jan. or early Feb. was recommended.
