Cassidy cails this meeting of the Parking and Traffic Commission to order
at 10:35 a.m., and explains that the Eaton Corporation has submitted a
site plan to the Planning Board. The project includes an addition to the
existing Eaton facility at 108 Cherry Hill Drive, and the Planning Board
will be holding a public hearing on the application next Tuesday evening.
The site plan review section of the Zoning Ordinance mandates review of
site plans by the Commission, and requires the commission to provide
the Board with a recommendation.
Mr. Don Godfrey of the Eaton Corporation introduces himself to the
members and explains that the existing building is 182,500 sq. ft. in
size. Eaton is proposing to build a three story addition of approximately
113,307 sq. ft. to house a demonstration center, applications lab, new
cafeteria, and office space. Godfrey estimates that as many as 150 new
employees will be working at the facility once the addition is complete.
The company hopes to begin construction in mid May and be finished in
12-15 months.
Godfrey adds that the entrance way is being relocated 80'-100' south of
its present location, and a planting island will be added. A new
driveway will be installed to access Sam Fonzo Drive. He states the
company intends to transplant some mature trees from other locations
on the site to the area between the new parIcing area and Conant Street.
Members discuss the plan generaily and note that ail traffic aisles meet
the minimum width requirements of 24' for two-way traffic and 18' for
one way traffic. The main driveway will consist of two one-way traffic
aisles separated by a landscaped island.
Paimer notes that the existing (original) building has a conventionai fire
suppression system, and that the recent addition has the required

'addressable~ system. He states that before an occupancy permit will be
issued for the proposed addition, both the new addition and the original
building will need to be equipped with an ~addressable~ system. Godfrey
notes that they are in the process of building a small stockroom addition
on the back of the building. Palmer strongly suggests that that addition
be hooked into the addressable system now.
Cassidy asks if there will be any outside storage of ~ammable or
hazardous material beyond what is on site now. Godfrey states there will
be no outside storage of those kinds of materials in connection with this
proposal.
Godfrey adds that the company employs one first-shift and two second-
shift security guards on the property at this point.
.Cassidy asks Tarsook and Palmer if they have any additional questions.
Tarsook notes that the parking lot configurations look good. Palmer has
no additional comments.
Cassidy states that she will draft a letter for the Planning Board
indicating that the Commission has no issues with this site plan and
recommends approval of it.
There being no other business, the meeting is adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
