DPW REPORT
Mike reported on completed projects: Bessie, Park St., Cooney,
also cleanup & trim done at Lynch, Colgate, Livingstone, Obear,
Lindsay, Vittori & Bessie
Still to come: new benches, new backstop for Balch; next big
project with Comm. Develop at Bartlett field. Plans include
backstop, skinned softball field, new fence, irrigation, new
playstructures. Also work planned end of this season at Innocenti,
grading, irrigation, resodding outfield, benches. Spoke about plans
for Vittori, Cross St. soccer field. Funds for work discussed will
be in DPW budget.
Mari reported: Boston Gas Co. thru Eastern Enterprises has a
Neighborhood Matching Fund. Beverly has been targeted this year
for some of this money. Up to $15,000 available to be matched by
fund raising, city contributions, etc. Deadline April 30. DPW
could provide supervision & assistance if most of the work is
planned during regular working hours as opposed to evenings &
weekends. Joan suggested Livingstone as a potential site that
could have heavy neighborhood involvement. Lynch was also
suggested. It was suggested that Lynch parking fees be increased
for one year to $7.00 & $12 with the extra income going to a new
playstructure. Could also ask residents to contribute $2 each for
their stickers. Question was raised on whether or not this was
legal. It was recommended that the City Council be consulted.
Discussed fencing needs at McKay & Dane
DI.RECTOR'S REPORT
Budget- discussed FY98 budget figures.
Mari updated Commission on the bills pending which will effect our
summer camp programs. Recent amendments to current regulations as
reported to us from the State Dept of Public Health will
.require us to Cory Check all employees before hiring thru the
State Cory System (not the local police as we have done in the
past).
.require us to hire one Water Safety instructor per 30 children in
the water which means we may have to hire additional camp staff.
.requires that all camp directors be 21.
