MINUTES OF MEETING
JANUARY 23, 1997
The Ordinanee Review Committee held its regular meeting on January, 23, 1997 at Beverly City Hall,
Third Floor at 7:30 P.M. '
PRESENT: Mary Grant, Tom Aexander, Crystal Atherton and Art Powell.
ABSENT: Elizabeth Lobrun, Roy Gelineau. and Gerry Parisella.
Crystal brought to the attention of the Committee that we have not filed our Minutes as required. Several
sets are still out and need to be typed., Mary reported that she had taken the minutes and has two sets one
in August and one in November to turn in. Arthur believes he has one set from Nov. 9 to turn in.
We spent this meeting discussing the material that Mary Grant had gone over relative to the duties and
responsibilities of the Council and how they oouid set up their committee work. Mary reported that all
Councils have similar Standing Committees- A Committee on Finance, A Committee on Public Services
and Property and a Committee dealing with legal matters and ordinances.
Mary passed out a set of Ordinances from the City of Newton which is a much larger City than Beverly
but has the same strong Mayor style govenunent through a Home Rule Charter similar to our new
Charter.
We decided to continue with our plan to finish up our work within the next few weeks and to meet again
next Wednesday, January 29.
