2003-01-28City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, January 28, 2003 7:15 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Joanne Avallon, Todd Balf, Edward Brindle, Neil Olson, Kevin O’Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, and John Young Board members absent: Lindsay Diehl, Helga Senko Others present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff John Young presided. Joanne Avallon made the motion, seconded by Kevin O’Reilly, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of December 17, 2002 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) State Aid Waiver: Tom Scully reported on his meeting with the MBLC requesting a waiver for library state aid requirement. Decision will be made at the MBLC February board meeting. 2) Farms Branch: Tom Scully reported on the progress of the Farms Library construction project. 3) Security: There have been no serious security incidents this past month. 4) Budget: The Mayor will probably take another $14,000 out of the library budget. The Mayor anticipates giving department heads a budget target by February 1 and he expects a budget back to him by March 1. Tom Scully distributed copies of the Mayor’s two year (FY2004,FY2005) spending plan that the Mayor had sent to the City Council. Tom Scully discussed how this would impact the library budget. 5) Rep. Grant: Tom Scully met with Rep. Mary Grant to discuss library issues. 6) Legislative Breakfast: Massachusetts Library Association breakfast is Friday, February 28. 7) th 150 anniversary: Anniversary of the library will be in 2005. Communications None Unfinished Business None New Business 1) Poetry Contest: Thursday, May 8, 2003. 2) After School Program: A volunteer has proposed running an afternoon art program at the library. 3) New Art Lecture Series: Third Thursday of the month at the library. 4) Beverly Reads: Planning for Beverly Reads 2003 has started. The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
