2003-02-25City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, February 25, 2003 7:10 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Edward Brindle, Lindsay Diehl, Neil Olson, Kevin O’Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, Helga Senko, and John Young Board members absent: Joanne Avallon, Todd Balf Others present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff John Young presided. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Helga Senko, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of January 28, 2003 as read. Motion passed. Election of Officers Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Kevin O’Reilly, to nominate the present chair, John Young, for another year. There were no other nominations. John Young accepted the nomination. Motion passed. John Young made the motion, seconded by Helga Senko, to nominate Lindsay Diehl as Secretary. There were no other nominations. Motion passed. John Young made the following committee assignments: Todd Balf will serve on the personnel committee. Joanne Avallon will serve on the administration committee. Lindsay Diehl will serve on the finance committee. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: Helga Senko distributed copies of the director’s annual review. Completed reviews should be returned to Helga by March 25, 2003. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) Budget: Mayor has postponed issuing FY2004 budget targets until the first week of March. 2) Farms Library Project: The weather is beginning to impact the Farms Library building progress. 3) State Aid: The Library received $43,166.40 in state aid. 4) Massachusetts Historical Commission: The Library had requested $15,000, but will receive $65,000 from the Mass. Historical Commission. 5) Security: There has been no word from the Mayor about the Library’s request for money for security. 6) Grant: The Beverly Public Library, Beverly Historical Society, Beverly City Clerk and several Beverly churches have applied for a grant from the Massachusetts Historical Records Advisory Board to fund an archivist to inventory Beverly historic records located at city hall, the library, historical society, and several churches. Communications None Unfinished Business None New Business 1) After School Program: John Young discussed the after school fine arts program that Chava Hudson has proposed to do for the library. 2) State Budget: Tom Scully reviewed impact of state budget cuts on state library services. 3) Sunshine Fund: Trustees contributed $20.00 per person to the sunshine fund. 4) Meeting dates: Meeting dates for 2003 were set. The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
