LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Feb. 26, 2002
Beverly Farms Library –
Bids for the Farms Library will be advertised in late March. The bid date
has been pushed back 30 days to allow for including specifications for landscaping. The architects
and I met with Ray Bouchard, Chairman of the Planning and Construction Committee who will
oversee the construction for the City. We reviewed the project progress. The architects are having
the project reviewed by their construction estimator to make sure we are still in the ballpark on
construction costs. We will also be meeting with the technology consultant to review plans for the
computer technology for the building.
We will also be seeking a waiver from the Architectural Access Board to avoid having to remove the
stage in the lecture hall.
Patron Problems
– Some patrons who are regular visitors to the library are continuing to cause
problems relating to bizarre behavior and alcohol abuse. In addition, the skateboarders continue to
be a problem. I have discussed the matter with the Chief of Police. When bike patrols resume in the
spring, we will have officers walk through the building and during the afternoons when the
skateboarders are prevalent, a police cruiser will come down Winter Street and move the
skateboarders along.
