2002-10-22City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, October 22, 2002 7:55 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: , Edward Brindle, Neil Olson, Kevin O’Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, and John Young Board members absent: Joanne Avallon, Lindsay Diehl, Helga Senko,Todd Balf Others present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff John Young presided. Kevin O’Reilly, made the motion, seconded by John Young, to accept the minutes of the September 17, 2002 administration committee meeting as read. Motion passed. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Joanne Panunzio, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of September 24, 2002 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: Year-to-date budget was reviewed. Long Range Planning: 1) Action plan will be reviewed at next month’s long range planning meeting. 2) Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Kevin O’Reilly, to: accept the long range planning committee’s report on the goals and objectives for the five year plan. Motion passed. Report of the Library Director 1) Farms Library: Stack wing has been demolished and excavation has begun. 2) Massachusetts Historical Commission: The Library may receive more grant money. 3)Challenge Grant: The Loring Family has made a $50,000 matching challenge grant. 4) State Aid: Tom Scully reviewed the state aid report and discussed how state budget cuts will affect the library. 5) Security/ Reference Desk: The police are not doing a walk through the library. There was a discussion on how to resolve the security problem. The reference desk is still busy. There was a discussion on how to address this issue. Tom Scully will develop a cost to hire a part-time adjustment counselor and a full-time reference librarian. He will set up an appointment with the Mayor. Communications 1) Lions Club: The library received $1,800 from the Beverly Lions Club. 2) La Leche: Kathy Abbott requested that the La Leche League be allowed to meet longer than 9:00 P.M. Tom Scully stated that this would not be possible. Unfinished Business None New Business None The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at 7:30 P.M. at the Main Library. There will be a Long Range Planning Committee meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:05 P.M.
