LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT
November 27, 2001
Farms Project
- The City has received a grant from the Massachusetts Historical Commission for
$85,000 for the Farms project. We had applied for $100,000, but MHC was apparently trying
to spread the available money over more communities.
State Budget Cuts -
The Governor’s Office is proposing a $6,000,000 cut in the Board of Library
Commissioner’s budget. This will impact the electronic databases that the state buys and
makes available to Library patrons over the Internet.
Circulation
- Circulation this summer, July and August has increased nearly 10% over the year
before.
Catalogue Images
- NOBLE has received a state grant of $13,000 to purchase software to allow
member libraries to add images to the on-line catalog. We have ordered the necessary
computers and purchased the file server to allow us to begin scanning old Beverly
photographs and fragile historical documents for this project.
